For us, the Ushindi Project was born out of one of those moments—standing in Oyugis, Kenya, listening to the stories of mothers, witnessing both their strength and their need.

 

As a nurse for over 17 years, I have always carried a deep passion for healthcare. But being on the ground in Kenya shifted something deeper. It wasn’t just clinical—it became personal.

 

Because no mother should leave a place of life… without what she needs to sustain it.

 

The Reality

In many parts of Kenya, mothers are discharged after childbirth without basic postpartum supplies.

No sanitary pads. No breast care items. Limited support for their newborns.

 

What should be a season of recovery and bonding often becomes a season of survival.

 

And while global statistics tell us that hundreds of mothers die for every 100,000 births, there are countless more who suffer in silence—simply because they lack access to essential care.

 

Our Response: The Ushindi Box

Ushindi means victory.

 

Through the Ushindi Project, we are working to ensure that every mother experiences not just childbirth—but a victorious recovery.

 

Each Ushindi Box is thoughtfully prepared to support mothers in the critical days after delivery and includes:

• Postpartum essentials (sanitary pads, breast pads, hygiene items)
• Baby care basics (blankets, feeding support items)
• Practical supplies to promote healing, comfort, and dignity
• Distribution through trusted local healthcare workers
